Pope Leo draws line in sand

"Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.

Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.

But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.

I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven."  Matthew 5:18, 19,20

There has been a lot of speculation about "What kind of pope will Pope Leo be?"

One vocal faction wants him to accelerate the drift toward secular values. They want a pope who supports relative standards and blesses go-with-the-flow morality.

Another faction contends that religion has no purpose if it mindlessly rubber-stamps every base, human desire. They want a pope who advocates for absolute standards.

A recent video posted by Pope Leo suggests that he is an absolute standards kind of guy.

It is instructive that he chose the word "murder" for #7 rather than the more common word "kill"

It is a long video (47 minutes). While I doubt that even many Catholics will watch it, you can get a sense of the content by scanning the Table of Contents.

We are all sinners. We are all fallen-people. A preacher or priest telling people that something is not a sin doesn't make it so. It makes the preacher a craven coward.

The physician comes for the sick people. Religion* is to lift-up and support us sinners and to help cure what is broken within us.

*I expect some comments that will say "You don't need no stinking religion. All you need is Jesus".

You are entitled to that viewpoint. My viewpoint is that Jesus is the Living Water and religion is the plumbing.

I also believe that "Woke religion" is when the potable water and waste-water pipes are cross-plumbed because "it don't matter" and "it is all the same".

  1. I love your opening verses. There was no New Testament at the time, so Jesus was speaking of the Old Testament and, specifically, the Torah, or first five books of the Bible. He didn't do away with it, He simply fulfilled and explained it. Every bit of it is still valid, as He said. I'm not saying this to start a fight, I just hope it will give a few Christians pause in order to question their faith, read their Bible more thoughtfully, and become stronger for it.

    1. In Mark 7:1-23 Jesus does speak to "unclean foods" and "ritual purification". So that is one of the very few examples where he carves-out an exception.

Then in Acts 15 the Apostles loosen some other Old Testament "laws" for the Gentile converts.

  2. We’re part of the Traditional Latin rite, and hoping he clarifies, or nullifies some of Pope Francis’s statements. Pope Benedict was going that way, what was once sacred and true, still is today. We hope Leo holds up the traditional teachings and Commandments, instead of following social changes.

I will be interested to see how this develops.

  5. Well I wish him the best of luck. Like all the other institutions the church is rotting from within and it starts at the top.

  6. This doesn't look like an official video channel. It looks to me like the more and more ubiquitous AI channels that have been popping up. What is the source of this message? The site does not attribute a source.

  7. He's get an immediate huge boost in numbers if he got rid of the clerical pedos and made it clear it was not going to be glossed over again, ever. And made good faith settlements with the affected, at great expense. Credibility is their smallest asset.

  8. Looks hopeful (I'm not Catholic).
Note that Murder is the better translation than Kill is the 19 commandments.

  10. Bank in '72 I went to an all boys Catholic high school. The Catholic boys warned us about some of the priests. They didn't use words like peodophile but conveyed the same information. Pre internet, pre common cheap long distance the only way to communicate was snail mail - and yet it was common enough that boys from different Parrish's warned us.

You are what you do. The Catholic Church is a peodophile organization. The primary function is to feed young victims to offenders and then hide them from responsibility. It has been this way since before the oldest of us reading this was born. Thru multiple Popes, decades - the Catholic Church has been steadfast in this.

    You are what you do!

    1. I was recently a sponsor for a 74 year-old widower. The program director tapped me on the shoulder for the privilege because the gentleman's personality and life-experiences made us a good fit.

If you are not a generic 55 year-old and you don't already have a sponsor, you can tell the director the kind of sponsor who will be able to speak the language you will be able to understand. For instance, maybe somebody who served in the Armed Services.

    2. I appreciate the information. My wife and children are all confirmed but I’m still learning the ropes. I grew up in in a strict evangelical church ( church 3 times a week). My oldest sister converted about 6 or 7 years ago and she is attending the Alpha classes with me. My nephew is also in the process of converting also.
