Callipyge genes (in sheep)

The Woke crowd is in an uproar because Sydney Sweeney, a fairly attractive young woman, implied that she was attractive due to both the brand of blue jeans she was wearing and due to her genes. At one point she quips "...they make my butt look good".

---Full disclosure: I prefer Mrs ERJ's good looks and melodious voice over Miss Sweeney's, but that is a matter of personal taste.---

I want to point out that there is a scientifically documented gene in sheep called "Callipyge" which translates from Greek as “beautiful buttocks”.

After years of Progressives telling us that their high BMI is due to genetics and hormonal issues and their paying money for Brazilian Butt-lifts, they decided to have a hissy-fit over a white woman mentioning that she had an attractive rear-end?

Her rear end does not look half bad for being 34 years old

I think the genetic endowment that men find most attractive about Miss Sweeney is that she has two X chromosomes. Maybe that is what has the Progressive panties in a wad.

  2. "a fairly attractive young woman": how gentlemanlike of you.

She seems to me to be rather a plain girl but matters of taste are not worth disputing.

    1. Plain as few/no tattoos and almost no make-up?

    2. No; plain as in having a rather ugly face.

  3. They are all upset because she is prettier than they are. She isn't beautiful, but she is pretty. And, at the end of it, women don't like competition.

And characteristics of "Pretty" are good genes that make her a desirable mate. Most of her detractors lack many of those good characteristics and they know it.

  4. You've nailed it.
Any time you see a picture of one of the 'activists' making noise, they do NOT look like a Ms. Sweeney type of woman. They are polar opposite in fact. The outrage is actually an expression of their jealousy, of women against other women, for being womanly. This is how crazy-insane most of them are.

  5. The majority of the criticism I've seen is about how it could be interpreted as her 'jeans' (genes) are superior in a macro sense (white skin, blonde hair).

With benefit of the doubt, I believe the intention is hinting more towards specific features that make her more generally attractive as opposed to a problematic commentary on race.

With that in mind, one can understand someone commenting on that line of ads as being risky (which may have been intentional) or perhaps even tone-deaf.

Reminds me of the 'scandal' with H&M years back where a line of children's t-shirts were modeled by a black child that had something to do with "monkey" and "jungle" if I recall. Unless intentional, I don't see it as problematic, but certainly could understand criticism of it.
That scenario resulted in mass 'uproar' and H&M stores being raided IIRC. I don't see the same thing happening to American Eagle, thankfully.

    1. P.T. Barnum (of circus fame) is credited with saying "Any kind of publicity is good publicity as long as they spell your name right.”

While it was not their intention, the people posting criticism of the American Eagle ad increased nearly everybody's awareness of the product Sydney was selling. Given that American Eagle's core customer base are not deeply and passionately invested in Woke culture, they will probably be selling a lot of jeans and denim jackets.

If their intention was to economically punish American Eagle for an edgy commercial (edgy from their world-view), then it will probably fail.

  6. ERJ, while I have not directly paid attention to much of the kerfuffle around Miss Sweeney, it does very much strike me as jealousy. Jealousy from junior high and high school girls I understand; jealousy from grown adults is beyond my comprehension.

    1. According to the calendar they are adults. Our society has created a spiritually and emotionally stunted population. People who live their lives as victims and have No ability to understand that They need to own their own deficiencies and perform at a level that creates success.

  7. I had to look up the advertisement to see what all the angst was about. Ms. Sweeney is a pretty girl with a relatively nice butt. I would say she wouldn't be noticed if she was in a group of barrel racers wearing Wranglers. Those ladies look good in jeans. I guess the mean girl gene is dominant in some women.

  8. I think someone wanted publicity and got it! (It wasn't the model either)...

  9. Any healthy young woman is attractive to men. If they were not, we would not be here.
It is a testament to how degraded our society is, that many of the young women are actually ugly, from mistreatment of themselves.

  10. Very adroit maneuver in your aside regards Mrs. ERJ. Something tells me she was and remains your Sidney, May she ever.
