Fine Art Tuesday

Henryk Hektor Siemiradzki born in 1842 in Ukraine to parents of Polish nobility and died in 1902.

Most paintings featured water (symbolic of rebirth) and many paintings had the most seemingly improbable vivid blue of infertile water reflecting unpolluted skies.

His "classical" themes and vast vistas remind me a little bit of Maxfield Parish paintings.

  1. Nice stuff, I noticed two different paintings of Jesus at the well with the Samarian woman.

    1. Both are historically inaccurate

John 4:11 "...and the well is deep..."

Artistic license. He wants you to SEE the water.

    2. My bad. The last image is of Jesus and Mary (of Mary and Martha fame). Martha is in the house cleaning and preparing a meal.

  3. The well IS deep that's a watering trough. Jesus is sitting on the edge of it beside the well
