Bat Pole (Not Czeck, Slovak or Russ)

The ring tied to the pole with blue baling twine is a 3/8" concrete rebar reinforcement. I tied it to the pole before I dropped it into the hole.

One bag of concrete (about 0.5 cubic feet or 850 cubic inches). The form is approximately 17"-by-20" inside dimensions.

Second bag of concrete added

Thar she stands! The trash stacked around the base is to keep it a little warmer tonight.
Now I have to totally ignore it for three days.

    3. Oh man.... I'm not a chemical nerd. That is pretty good, though. I'll steal it for later use...

  2. So, what is the purpose of the pole? To give single adult female bats a place to meet up n coming young boybats?

    1. Concrete is not a perfect building material. It is vulnerable to cracking out at the corners. Concrete is brittle and while very strong in compression is weak in tension.

The steel ring is to hold the segments that crack-out in position so they can still function and stabilize the pole.

I am planning for a 30 year life. I will be 95 by then and if it fails it will be up to somebody else to replace it.
