The ring tied to the pole with blue baling twine is a 3/8" concrete rebar reinforcement. I tied it to the pole before I dropped it into the hole. |
One bag of concrete (about 0.5 cubic feet or 850 cubic inches). The form is approximately 17"-by-20" inside dimensions. |
Second bag of concrete added |
Thar she stands! The trash stacked around the base is to keep it a little warmer tonight. |

ReplyDeleteSixteen sodium ions walked into bar. Who came next?
DeleteI do not know. Who?
DeleteSodium Ions are Na+ so "Na na" times 8....Bat-Man!
DeleteYou have to be a nerd and a little bit salty to get the joke.
Oh man.... I'm not a chemical nerd. That is pretty good, though. I'll steal it for later use...
DeleteSo, what is the purpose of the pole? To give single adult female bats a place to meet up n coming young boybats?
ReplyDeleteDance venue for those young bat-girls.
DeleteYou do good work.

Why the ring?
ReplyDeleteConcrete is not a perfect building material. It is vulnerable to cracking out at the corners. Concrete is brittle and while very strong in compression is weak in tension.
DeleteThe steel ring is to hold the segments that crack-out in position so they can still function and stabilize the pole.
I am planning for a 30 year life. I will be 95 by then and if it fails it will be up to somebody else to replace it.
