Presented with minimal comment: Oakland, California 2022

You gotta wonder why Google doesn't have more recent imagery than May, 2022

  1. Bing Maps (bing.com/maps) usually appears to have more recent images. YMMV.

  2. Goggle Earth Pro shows image date April 2024, area is clear of then 'encampment' and dead cars, across from what appears to be a football field and greenspace (soccer field?). April 2023 imagery shows some of the trash, but a less than 2022.

  3. Take a look a Slab City, just east of Niland in California. Been there for decades. Google Earth has driven the area.

Slab City has no water, sewage or electricity, just cement slabs leftover from WW2 training.

Looks like Salvation Mountain between Slab City and Niland is being kept up also. Quite a background story to this one, worth a look if you are ever in the area.

  4. Some are Hoovervilles, some are enemy camps.

  5. Agree with John! Slab City is definitely a Hooterville.

  6. Hooterville? Wasn't that where the Shady Rest Hotel was?
