Notes

I went to the Farmer's Market in Charlotte, Michigan. It is held Thursday from 2:00 until 6:00. This particular stall is the one I found most appealing. The woman "manning" the stall lamented the difficulty of both growing the merchandise and the need to be slick at marketing it. I asked if I could take some photos to share with my friends. She was fine with that.

"Doubtlessly, God could have created a more perfect fruit than a freshly picked, fully-ripe strawberry. Doubtlessly, He never did."  Dr Boteler

I like this display. It shows the maximum amount of fruit and uses the space.

"But wait...there is more..."

Garage doors

Mrs ERJ is fond of her power garage door opener. It went on the fritz. The toggle-locks (mechanical clinches) that joined the vertical, channel-shaped stiffener and the rolled edge at the top had broken. The rolled edge at the top creased and tore.

You can see the tear in the upper-left corner of the image. The door bent, the motor overloaded and reversed. The door would not close.

"When in doubt, make it stout, of stuff you know a lot about."

It isn't pretty, but it works. God willing we will get another ten years out of it before it breaks again.

Cellulite

An amazing scientific discovery regarding the origins of cellulite, that indestructible material found beneath the skin of legs in both sexes of humans.

It comes from Compression socks!!!

You read it here, first.

  1. ERJ, they have a fine farmer's market in New Home 2.0. I have visited two times but have not had the opportunity to do the leisurely fact finding tour that I should. I am not sure about how the pricing stacks up - it may be somewhat skewed towards the upper end suburban market, which we are no longer a part of.

    1. Find some vendors who you hit-it-off with. Maybe wear a hat that reveals a part of your rural upbringing.

      Get to know them.

Ask if they offer discounts near the end of the day. Many of the finest produce is perishable and they don't want to cart it back home to dispose of it. Even things like beets will have wilted greens and are less saleable even though the greens are still good and the root is rock-solid.

It costs nothing to ask and you are saving them the aggravation of hauling unsold produce back home.

  2. I used Lexan to 'fix' my garage door.
If I spend $1000 to fix it, I'm rewarded with a higher tax bill.
So my neighbors get to see my sad and saggy garage door. Forever.

  3. Many beautiful homes in Mediterranean countries have an unfinished top floor that looks unsightly.
If the house is still under construction the taxes are not nearly as high. I don't know how long they can run that scam but there's an awful lot of Rusty rebar on top buildings.

    1. My hometown in Iowa had a law like that. Supposed to encourage keeping the home in good repair. ,maybe adding on to the house. I remember one guy ,though, who put scaffolding up and took 4 years to paint his house. ( 1 year for each side.) Had no local property tax for those 4 years.
