Busy day planned for today. Reptile pron

A big work day is planned for today.

Mrs ERJ's minivan is back. It suffered from a split heater-hose. Wilder's Automotive was awesome. They slid it into their work-stack and got it done.

Southern Belle is collecting goats. I have been tasked with extending the enclosure to absorb the additional animals. Her vision is that the goats will kill the brush that chokes her property. My count of tree rings suggests that the property has been in free-fall for 13 years.

My job will be to drive fence posts and then hang the panels (2 hours). Southern Belle's job will be to add ties in the middle and bottom of the T post.

I also need to get out to the Hill Orchard and the Upper Orchard and carry water to the baby trees (2 hours). Then I need to mow (2 hours). Then I need to start breaking down some downed trees into 8' long bolts (maybe, depending on fatigue level). If I am smart, I will do the chainsaw work first while I am fresh. I can ride on a mower even if I am tired.

Random maps

While the chances of being attacked by an alligator in Oklahoma is low, it is not zero

Another map. Maybe historic range?

OK, not a map. So sue me.

Michigan is a good place to be if you don't care for Timber Rattlesnakes

Deinosuchus, prehistoric beast. The skull is 6' long. From Texas, of course.

Enjoy the water all you folks in Illinois and points south of there.

  1. Goats can be a challenge to keep in pasture. They appear to love a challenge and will test where a possible escape is. They are very fun to watch, especially the young kids running about. Stay hydrated and be careful.

  3. Timber Rattlesnakes have been found in the Adirondacks as well. Tho not as many, but they are on the move.

  4. Sounds like a busy day ERJ! Pace yourself.

    Alligators are not my favorite.

    1. It used to be that all across the South could be found little air dried alligators.

I envision a taxidermist staging an epic fight between a python and an alligator.
It would be fearsome and tall. The gator reared up on its back claws and tail, it's giant maw about to clamp upon the strangulations of the coiled demon.

What prevents you from using, say a water tank of xx - xxx gallon capacity mounted on a trailer slim enough to slip between the rows; or, a long enough hose attached to the same?

  6. An uncle, in down state IL, kept alligators in a pond. They thrived.

  7. Several years, the Massachusetts Dept of something or other, proposed adding rattlesnakes to some island in the Quabbin Reservoir, based on historical range. The reservoir and islands were a popular boating and fishing area, many people spent the weekend there.
Thankfully, last I heard the state was convinced by others that snakes were a bad idea.

  8. Similarly, the chance of being attacked by an Alligator in Michigan is low, but not zero.
