How badly is Chicago hemorhaging population?

An outlet for a national chain of rental trucks has a sign along Waverly Road in Lansing telling passers-by that they are leasing trucks returned in Chicago for "ONLY $16.99".

Lansing is 216 miles from Chicago.

Pretty soon they will be PAYING renters to return them there.

  1. Cheaper than renting a car if that is your destination.

  2. Reminds me of the cost to/from Texas/California. Over $1000 from Cali to Texas, $200 from Texas to Cali, over 1000 miles.

    1. Yup. Even with the extra travel costs, cheaper to rent round trip in Texas than one way in Cali.

  3. I call it the UHaul Index.
I'll pick two cities and a move date starting on Monday a couple weeks in advance. June 17th in this case.
    Chicago to Dallas is $1,513
    Dallas to Chitown is $1,100
