Dinner last night

Some potatoes were damaged while I was digging them up.

My beautiful and frugal bride used them to make mashed potatoes and topped them with a tomato/vegetable/turkey stew.

Waste not, want not.

  3. Central Europeans mix their mashed potatoes in equal parts with shredded cabbage or sauerkraut and a meat, usually ham, bacon, or sausage. Czechs call the dish leperice and the Dutch call it Zuurkoolstamppot. Makes excellent use of damaged potatoes in the Fall and Winter.

    1. Sounds tasty and frugal.

What Do we HAVE for dinner, not what we Want for dinner.

I have a 5 gallon pail of kimchee working right now. Everything but the salt came from my place.

  4. About a year ago, I saw a brisket - mashed potato "Parfait' , tilting the plastic glass and layering the potatos and brisket w/ sauce until glass was full. Sounds like a great picnic food.

  5. Several weeks ago I made a shepherd’s pie recipe that came from a competitive female bodybuilder…bikini category. It was made with 99% lean turkey, mashed potatoes, tomato paste and green beans. My gym buddies called It “bikini” shepherds pie. When my husband got a hold of it he dumped butter over the potatoes, then added grated Parmesan cheese (a lot). The gym owner renamed it “one piece” (as in a 1 piece bathing suit versus a bikini) shepherds pie.
