A few pictures and "code talkers"

A persimmon tree with an unusual-for-species tree form.

I detected a whiff of decaying meat while working on the fence, so I took a walk through the woods behind it to investigate.

Most of the trees had dropped their leaves, otherwise I never would have noticed this tree.

Close-up of the trunk. Sometimes raccoons and possum will "prune" persimmon branches by climbing on them to harvest fruit, only to have them snap off at the base. I suspect that is what happened to this tree.

Squirrels moved these walnuts (and many more) to this location. They did not explain their reasoning to me.
Fences

Work continues on the fence. Realistically, I need about three more hours of time-on-task to get it ready to receive animals. Then I need a couple large, round-bales of hay for emergency feed, water and salt.

Buzz-word salad (and hiding in the open)

"Convening, curating, & facilitating generative inter-movement"

"Growing a community"

"Connecting key in-person convenings for greater alignment"

"Incubating high leverage & impact synergy action projects between diverse movement fields and unlikely allies"

"Build a Broad-based, Multistranded, Movement around a Positive Vision Concretized in Locally Rooted Action"

All very worthy of mockery because of the vague and pretentious language, but what does it mean?

"Incubating high leverage & impact synergy action projects..." could mean fomenting decapitation-strikes against institutions, smear campaigns against businesses and violence (impact) in a coordinated efforts to maximize disruption.

Those daffy-sounding phrases are all from the "Mission Statement" of one of the shadowy organizations that has been accused of coordinating Antifa from behind the scenes. Think of them as a computer Operating System that support and coordinate a diverse universe of "gadgets" and host hundreds of apps.

Antifa has been identified as one of the main instigators of the French riots

Just because they sound stupid does not mean that they are not dangerous.

News to me

Good luck!

  1. The rest of Illinois is also tired of paying the costs of a Chicago Teachers Association school corporation's run City budget deficit.

  2. I've often seen claims that the 'Southern' 60-chromosome race of American persimmon is programmed to grow in an upright 'timber' form, but having grown up and still living in a locale where the 60-C race predominates, I think that growth habit is more influenced by site - open-grown persimmons tend toward a spreading, orchard-type habit, while those sprouting people na woodland setting are more upright, as they are forced to compete with surrounding vegetation to reach upward for available sunlight.
There are several 50+ y.o. persimmons here in the woods that probably were sprouts in an old crop field that was allowed to revert back to forest, which are 60+ ft tall, 30 ft or more to the first limb.

  4. Six or eight(?) months ago there were rumblings of many Illinois counties that were voting to become part of Indiana. Best of luck to them.

Wouldn't a trend of isolating big blue ugly commy cities from their associated rural areas be a wonderful development?

  5. I left a lifetime in WNY b/c of the problems with 2 metro area's that run the entire state. Ditto everywhere else in the nation, really. Ergo it's the crux of the issue - rural vs. urban.
It's funny, b/c you can't have an urban area w/ a rural area that supports it (food, water, waste, energy). Conversely, rural area's don't NEED urban area's, if we can forgo much of the technology like Hospitals and airports.
I think most rural people would be OK with that trade. So, what's stopping us from cutting off the urban area's (today, or at some point during the future unpleasantness)?

    1. Gah. typo's!
Can't have an urban area WITHOUT a rural area that supports it.

  6. ERJ, sadly that is the language of a great many groups now, even businesses and corporations: vague sounding phrases that can be interpreted any number of ways.

  7. The left knows and routinely uses the fact that he who controls the language controls the society. Propaganda is, and has always been more effective than facts
