Fiddly work and some garden pron

Thank-you to all of the readers who suggested ways I can deal with my joint pain. I have been on light-duty, stretching, taking additional Vitamin C and praying/meditating. I seem to be bouncing back.

I got three more hours time-on-task yesterday because the afternoon rains were a no-show.

The light-duty was to drive T-posts and to secure fruit trees to them. Unfortunately, the most productive rootstocks usually have brittle roots and are notorious for leaning over.

I used 1/2", polyester "pull tape" to tie the trees to the posts and was very happy with the material. The ends frayed rapidly, so I had a piezoelectric igniting, propane torch handy. I gently toasted the ends when I cut a piece from the spool.

It was slow, fiddly work. The good news is that it was not physically challenging.

I also moved some bags of cow poop from the truck to the Hill Orchard and I pruned a Northern Spy apple tree.

I was able to increase the soil temperatures by placing four layers of corrugated cardboard underneath the 20W heating mat. If insulation prevents most of the heat from going down, then it will go up.

We have lots of cardboard boxes.

Bonus video footage

Allegedly recorded at a No Kings rally. One minute run-time.

  1. There have been several video's similar to the one posted, that have convinced me we as a species are fucked.
When the palenstinian protesters were chanting "From the River to the Sea", and couldn't tell you what river, nor what sea, was another shining example.
It's not even a left/right issue, though the left-side does appear to be more vocal... age seems to be the biggest factor that I can tell? Anyone educated around the same time I was, has certain basic understandings. Younger cohorts, are in many cases downright inverted!
    We're fucked. Truly.

    2. Oh, I'm certain its real. I had to help 3 college kids (and 5 other people face-timing in) how to work a gas can.

    1. I keep a roll-on of DMSO handy for the sore / hurt spots. It really, really helps.

  3. A word of caution on the cardboard. Check it to make sure it is NOT overheating. With no airflow, it could potentially flash off on you.

    1. Good call as that was the reason for a last spring's house fire.

      Most expensive garden ever.

I'd NOT use cardboard that way.

  4. Any ideas on how to refill a DMSO rollon bottle? Haven't been able to get that ball out of the top. The rollons are now almost as expensive as the quart I bought originally.

  5. I have arthritis and accompanying muscle pain and have been forbidden the use of non steroidal or aspirin, the usual go to because of weak kidneys. Penetrex rub made from arnica helps me a lot. Available from Costco.

  6. My body hurts, not my mind. I will not die from pain alone. Getting old and hurting is not unique to me. It is part of the natural order of things. Sometimes my pain is there to teach me humility so I count it as a blessing.
