Something happened to the official laptop of the ERJ blog. It probably involved German Shepherds, three-year-olds or clumsy sixty-six year-olds, either alone or in combination.
Two broken wires on the power supply. The opening on the port where the power cord plugs into is oblonged. I purchased a new power supply and it is not "making" the contacts.
I am using Mrs ERJ's desk-top computer.
I am going to sulk a while before spending the money to purchase a new (to me) laptop.
It may be God's way of telling me that I have a lot of chores sitting on the one-yard-line that I need to punch into the end-zone.

I am corrupting Quicksilver just like any other grandfather would do.
We made peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies yesterday. They would have had more chocolate but somebody kept stealing the biggest pieces off of the cutting board.
Not sure if it was you or Quicksilver grabbing the chocolate :-)
ReplyDeleteFruit doesn't fall far they say..
Might try taking the laptop to a "We Fix" place
ReplyDeleteThey might be able to fix it on the cheap.
If it’s not too bad I have fixed that problem by using a dental pick and bending the outside electrical contact so it’s much larger to tighten up the hole. Then hot melt glue into the working position. Once had to solder the power supply wires to the motherboard. Good luck. Linux will make even a 10 year old computer have useable speed.
ReplyDeleteYep on the pin /hot glue fix.

ReplyDeleteI was looking at laptops last week and Walmart had some with decent speed and storage capacity for less than 200 bucks.
ReplyDeleteRemember the good 'ole days when we could fix stuff that broke? You kids get off my lawn (kidding, the lawn has succumbed to the drought)!
ReplyDeleteRecipe calls for x chips of y flavor? Buy 3x of 2y. And coconut flakes. Bake MANY more cookies than is sane; vac-pac and freeze excess, if any. Lacking walnuts, I've been snacking on the bags of the other snackable ingredients. Burp.
Except for my taxes, I find an Amazon Fire 10 tablet does all the work I need. Currently on sale for $69! Of course, I'm not writing a nationally renown blog, but you can get external Bluetooth keyboards if needed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads-up
DeleteAnother source of used computers is University surplus. If there are any nearby colleges, check to see if they do surplus sales and how. If they are state colleges, they might do it through the govdeals.com online auction site.
ReplyDeleteAlso, some Goodwill stores will have complete computers with operating system, or shells you can add memory, drive and power supply, also available there. I have gotten my last several computers that way.
