I am willing to do my part

You know, if the government shutdown inconvenienced the IRS, I will cheerfully support moving tax-day from April 15, 2026 to November 1, 2026.

  1. Sounds like a fine idea to me! Hopefully people can remember when they vote the next day.

  2. I wanna know: If we are only getting something like 18% of government workers working, do we get to not pay for 82% if our taxes during the shutdown?

  4. We should also get rid of withholding so the scale of income tax is obvious to everybody.

  5. Funny, innit, how the one group of people employed in Washington, are insulated from their own consequences? They never got laid off, we never downsize CONgress... their JOB is to pass a budget, and when they don't, EVERYONE ELSE suffers, but not them.
Therein lies the biggest problem we face.

  6. The biggest way to change government would be to stop employer withholding and make people write that check to the government so the feel the pain every paycheck. Once that happened, working people would be near revolt.

The second way is, as you pointed out, make tax day be just before voting day.

We'd have a government 1/3 the size within two elections.
