There might be another hunter in the field this season

One of my nephews married a divorced woman. Her children now call him "Dad".

The oldest is a girl in her mid-teens and she wants to go deer hunting with him. In particular, she wants to go BOWHUNTING since she loves being outside during October.

Dunham's is a regional sporting goods store and they have some great sales.

It is my belief that my nephew intends to buy her a cross-bow today!

We need new hunters and fishermen. I may even kick-in and purchase some hunting arrowheads for the venture.

  1. Straw bales, targets and gentle training Good Sir.

Its building trust and respect that makes new hunters, not gear.

Probably why most of us old timers remember Dad or Uncle Bob bringing us out with that old 22 and showing us how much fun it was.

Dad loaned us our rifles; we had to earn the money for the ammo after the initial training and enthusiasm was generated.

  2. Great to hear when a young person takes interest in the outdoors. So many addicted to the electronic screens and staying indoors. I hope she doesn't mind waking up early for the morning hunt. For some the deal breaker. Watching the dawn break - feeling the wind blow through the trees - hearing animal wildlife moving about makes it all worth while.

  3. That is great news! A friend brought his granddaughter on a deer hunt a few years ago. She got a deer, cleaned it, and she was hooked!!!

  4. Greetings ERJ. Hubs and I used to live in Jackson county (been to Dusty’s / English Inn in ER a few times), moved to FL over 11 years ago (what were we thinking?), and are now trying to sell our FL home and move back to MI. I am glad to have found a blogger from “home”. I think I found you from Toirdhealbheach’s site. Also, glad to see you’ve hooked up to Patrice Lewis over at Rural Revolution.

I’ve been lurking around your site for a year or more, never commenting, but felt I could add some useful information to this post. There’s a program called BOW, Becoming an Outdoor Woman that offers all sorts of workshops for outdoor activities. BOW is run by the Department of Natural Resources. Programs include deer hunting, archery, campfire cooking, firearms use, etc. I don’t know if the pandemic lockdowns but a kabosh to the program but it would be worth looking into for your nephew’s new daughter.
