"You were right."
Most of you probably get tired of hearing that. Tough. Let me tell you again:
"You were right!"
The media collateral ligament is 3" or 4" long and runs vertically along the inside of the knee.
My physical activity finally caught up with me. The symptoms are consistent with a mild sprain/strain of my left, media collateral ligament. It is all calmed down and happy when I first wake up and gets progressively angrier through the day.
I have been exceptionally mindful of how my left knee feels. I think it is "torquing" or spinning on my foot that is lighting it up.
Mrs ERJ and I have very different ways of working in the kitchen. Watching her glide from station-to-station is like watching a calligrapher write in cursive. My motions are more like a chicken-on-crack looking for worms. Quick, jerky motions. Rapid acceleration means large forces.
Weeding in the garden also creates strange forces on my knees.
I think the original insult was when I was humping buckets of water in the Upper Orchard a week ago. I stepped into a woodchuck hole. I might have been OK if I had been wearing work-boots but I wearing an old, sloppy pair of running shoes.
I see no point in visiting my primary care provider, yet. If I had actually torn my MCL I would have been sidelined immediately, so it is likely a sprain. He will tell me to slow down, rest, ice, compression, elevation and ibuprofen. Then he will tell me to come back in two weeks if it is still a problem.
Slowing down will not come easily but having my left knee throbbing with pain is not a picnic, either. Maybe I can do almost as much as long as I change my motions to eliminate the side-loads and torques on my knees.
Ughhh. Hit the bench, Joe. Knees are bad places to have problems. Do it right and give them the time to heal.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, Try some kind of knee support. A tube type elastic brace perhaps. They do help me. I have beat the heck out of my knees. Had one replaced and working hard to prevent having the other one done.
ReplyDeleteThis^^^^ I had my left knee replaced a wear a brace (Amazon) it works for me also try DMSO.

DeleteI'd normally tell you to STOP doing the things that hurt you.
ReplyDeleteBut you'd not (lol, meee too).
SO Please get some TECHNOLOGY to haul that blessed water to the trees and REST that Knee. Otherwise I PROMISE that overusing the Other knee will give you a matching pair of suffering. Been there did that too many times.
God designed the body so pain would tell us to STOP and heal. It's a self healing machine if we feed it right and LISTEN to the pain.
If it was life and death for you and yours, I'd say drive on.
Right now for the PRICE of a Dr. Visit you can BUY at Walmart a LOT of shelf stable Food and set it aside WHILE you HEAL UP.
Walk in dirt look at foot print, make sure your not splaying your foot. When mine acts up I found a tube brace helps.
ReplyDelete+1 on the boots. Mine are 8-inch lace up, 5.11 brand.
ReplyDeleteA few years back I tweaked my knee, IIRC my left, along the left side of my knee cap. Don't recall that I was ever sure how I did it. Anyhoo, I got one of these--

Helped a LOT. Also, Ibuprofen--helps ease the pain and reduces inflammation, especially at night to promote healing. For me, took a couple of weeks and all was well.
A knee sleeve and rest may be of value.
ReplyDeleteI have found that Red Light Therapy helps a lot. Doctor recommended it and it has worked well. My wife just had knee replacement surgery and is doing better but still has problems but she will be 80 next month so that may have some effect.
ReplyDeleteGettin' old is tough. Nothing will get ALL better again. ---ken
Getting old can be tiring too. I like naps now and again and sometimes whiskey. Or whisky even.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. Actually, I feel my pain. I've had trouble with that ligament in my right knee for years, so that the pain was constant. In the last five months it has improved quite a bit, which I attribute to diligent lifting at the gym - specifically squats and deadlifts. Also, the less I eat carbs, the better it feels. When I let desserts and sandwiches into my life, everything flares up. YMMV.
ReplyDeleteJoe put your foot up, and start writing a good story. Woody
ReplyDeleteMe too. Left knee has been bad since February snow removal. Inside area at first, now the joint itself. I went through PT, which helped for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI used an Ace wrap brace for awhile, which also helped the side pain. Tylenol and IB every 4 hours, alternately. Got a cortisone shot for joint pain, which mostly helped. Still limping. Some days not bad.

I strongly recommend seeing an Ortho and having an MRI. While a simple strain is possible as we age tissues are less elastic. It's quite possible that you have a partial tear...which would dramatically change treatment. And the wrong or delayed treatment could risk a complete tear and instability of the joint.
