One sunny day does not make it summer

It looks like Monday-through-Friday of next week will be the challenge

We are nearly through our first "day" of the plague.

My lymph nodes showed up at 6:30 a.m. My temperature wandered around between 99 and 101 from 8 a.m. until now, 5 p.m. Those temperatures are NOT exceptional for the flu.

The copious mucus tapered off. I am still coughing. Maybe I will get slammed again in the morning. 

I held off on taking ibuprofen or Tylenol until 3:00 p.m. By then, I was getting a muscle tension headache at the base of my skull, undoubtedly from lifting my chin up to swallow.

The muscle pain showed up. I believe it is because muscles cramp-up to make heat for the fever. And since I was sleeping, they didn't get stretched out through the day. It was a big surprise when I stood up out of my recliner and my right leg gave out.

It has been a blessing to be able to sleep.

I ate a leg from a rotisserie chicken and a very small sweet potato. That was a mistake. I kept it down but it was a chore.

You know, I would be absolutely thrilled if Mrs ERJ and I both had the common, garden variety flu. There are times when it is good to be boring.

  2. Please remember that chart Joe. Children can shed viruses for 10 days AFTER getting over the flu.

    Round 2 from our ER records often puts Grandparents in our care.

    Good folks are rare. Get better friend.

      Is it your impression that Round 2 is a reinfection with the same strain? Or do you mean it is the second wave of contagion?

      Getting infected with multiple viruses at the same time or in quick sequence is a horror scenario. There are plenty of bad-nasties floating around out there.

    2. Hard to say if it's because your system just got "over" the first assault and is staggering OR that as Viruses mutate like mad (most flu's are NOT monolithic but several).

      It takes your body more than a few days of "Good Health" to replenish your immune system.

      I used to tell healthy young folks to stay away from people at least 24 hours after they feel "fine". Just to recharge their defenses. Older folks (like me) I'd like to suggest 72 hours.

      Meanwhile I strongly suggest you support your gut health (most of the immune system is there) with fermented foods, soups (easily digested more energy for immune recovery) and rest.

      As a multi decade hospital worker I've worked through many a BAD Flu season, H1N1, COVID, avian flu and so on.

      During all flu seasons I eat a bowl of that whole chicken and rice with a stir in blob of kimchee daily as a preventative. DO NOT COOK the Kimchee. If I get feeling under a little bit I eat it twice a day.

      You'd be amazed how freely your mucus flows with kimchee, might need that lotion nose tissue :-).

      Washing my hands is required. During BAD Flu Seasons I strip down at the mudroom, toss my clothing into the washer and shower before I even talk to my beloved wife.

      Not bring that into the house, you know.

      We've had some of this discussion when we were talking about Daycare folks have iron immune systems. As I mentioned only the ones WITH an Iron Immune system keep at it. Natural selection :-)

      A small study suggesting 60% of hospitalized influenza patients have lymphopenia. Lymphocytes do a lot of the heavy-lifting of the immune system.

      It would be interesting to identify the patients with the greatest reduction in lymphocytes and follow them to see if they were the population who needed followup support.

      The trigger for a diagnosis for lymphopenia seems to be fused fairly tight. The normal range for an adult is 1000-to-4800 per microliter. Lymphopenia is defined as readings that are below 901 per microliter. So if the average of the normal range is 2900 and the level becomes a concern at 900, then the flag goes up at 30% of average-normal.

      It is reasonable to assume that some patients will have less than 900/ml, maybe even much less. That is a case of the barn door swinging in the breeze and the meat inside not having much protection.

This suggests that kimchi helps the immune system respond to threats more effectively without causing excessive inflammation.

      I knew from personal observation Kimchee was useful.

      Now I know why :-)

    1. Thank-you Gary. Frankly, I worry far more about Mrs ERJ than about myself. She has much higher needs for social interactions of the face-to-face kind and, well, she is slender.

      She did cancel her two volunteer gigs for this weekend. In total, that is about seven hours of interacting with people.

    1. Used it when I got COVID. All symptoms resolved in 2 daily doses, took a 3rd as that was recommended.

      BTW Apple flavored don't taste like any apple I've enjoyed. But with a tablespoon of peanut butter it was ok.

      Make SURE it's pure Ivermectin, NO add in anti-parricides.

    3. We took IVM during our bout of flu/whatever back in Dec. not sure if it helped or not. Mine lasted 7 to 8 days, hubby’s was about 5.
      I had ravenous hunger, plus stomach upset. Hubby did not. I ate tuna, cream of chicken soup, eggs, potatoes, sometimes hamburger. Sweets made me ill. The fatigue was overwhelming. Days 2 through 4 were the worst.

      I used it for my bout of COVID as reported above. Wife did not. She was down for almost a week. Both of us had the daily bowl of whole chicken soup with live culture kimchee. She said that was on the only way she could tolerate my garlic stink :-)

      When I was working overseas, we used Ivermectin to deworm locals. Pour on in the elbow method, gave them a sweet as a treat. SOON learned you had to use a magic marker so they wouldn't show up many times.

      Horse paste tube I used (I suspect universal) was marked for dose per 50 pounds units. Getting the correct dose seems to be the common theme in other sites I visit.

      Nice part is the tube is reclosable and reusable later.

      Just a side note if things go sidewise here in America and water systems are affected then worms will again be a real problem here just like Africa and most of South America. Pour on Ivermectin is cheap. Just make sure it's JUST Ivermectin not the extra other deworming stuff.

      Somebody got a Nobel Prize for its use in Malaria.
