An early start to the day

Today should be an easy day. No play-dates for Quicksilver. No plans other than changing the oil in my truck.

Southern Belle has the chest-cold that Handsome Hombre had and Quicksilver has the sniffles. In due course it will hit me and Mrs ERJ, but for now we are good-to-go.

SB was running half-speed yesterday. She saw this coming.

Quicksilver and I went grocery shopping for her yesterday afternoon. Quicksilver picked out the rotisserie chicken, the bag of salad and sweet potatoes and, most importantly, the dessert. She chose cheese Danishes covered with lemon goo.

I remember working and being sick. Small kindnesses like having somebody else "handle" getting dinner seemed like a really big thing.

Handsome Hombre dropped off Quicksilver this morning. She was out-of-sorts since it was 90 minutes earlier than her (and my) usual routine. She settled down in a minute after settling into the rocking chair (i.e. my recliner), a fuzzy quilt and LiaChaCha kiddy show on the TV.

She is now on the floor next to Zeus and they are both watching Shaun the Sheep and happy-happy-happy and I now have enough ambition to make a second cup of coffee.

So far, so good.

  1. I've had some success avoiding the crud by taking a dose of Ivermectin as soon as you suspect the crud, and then the day after. YMMV.

    1. I tried Ivomectin a few times, but I could never seem to get it poured down the middle of my back when I tried to do it myself without making a huge mess, and it was hard to find someone else to do it for me for some reason.

    2. LOL Anon. When we used it in Africa, we would put some in the crook of the patients arm and have them hold still for a few minutes. The dose is surprisingly small using Vet grade Ivermectin.

We gave a small food treat to kids and to adults that wanted one. Had to use a sharpie to mark treated kids because they'd come back every few minutes for a treatment and treat.

Personally, I find the apple flavored pure Ivermectin Horse paste good enough. Dose in a tube locally is for a 1000 pound horse and graduated so it's easy to use for smaller "animals". Make sure it doesn't have extra dewormers in it. A dose mixed with a tablespoon of peanut butter is ok. It tastes NOTHING like apples to me.

Not intended to be medical advice :-) What we did in Africa and South America worked quite well but you know well...

    3. I mix it with apple sauce. Worked great. Made my second run at Covid vanish in hours. I take it after dining on sushi... also.

  2. Please go defensive with plenty of hot soup and rest Joe. Kiddie bugs cycle through the family and you are important to Quicksilvers lifestyle.

Its like driving in the snow, don't wait until your sliding to apply the brakes and get extra distance from others.

    1. Roger. Wilco.

Getting exposed to the latest mutations of what is "out there" is not a bad way to keep a fresh portfolio of antibodies on-tap.

Stay healthy. Don't abuse our bodies. Get sleep. Hydrate. Have a plan. And don't worry about getting three colds/flu a year.

    2. The daycare folks that have a strong enough immune system keep working there.

  4. Its truly funny, how in the mad swirl of life and all the fussing and fighting that life requires nowadays, it really is the simplest of pleasures that make the difference in your day.

  6. Shaun the Sheep is an incredibly enjoyable show, at least to me.

C.S. Lewis would say that moments like you are describing are exactly the point of everything else, and if those things do not serve that purpose, they are likely not necessary.

  7. The few episodes of Shaun the Sheep that I saw were rather amusing. I LOVED the little green guys on Alien TV. Their innocence and wordless speech was refreshing. Unlike Sesame Street, there was no agenda.
