During WWI, a trenching tool (shovel) with a razor-sharp edge was preferred by the seasoned soldiers over bayonets and other "official" cutting tools. It served as both a thrusting and swinging weapon during melees while the bayonet was superior for thrusting but useless for "axe" attacks.
If you can kill it with a shovel, it was not fleeing. It was attacking.
Since I can no longer use horse manure in my compost, I think I will print out their recommendations and use them instead.

Any cougar that gets close enough for you use a shovel or any other such tool on it is an IMMEDIATE danger and the killing justified. The fish police are simply looking for another person

ReplyDeleteIf you ever find yourself in this situation, always be clear headed enough to let the animal bite you at least once so you can prove "self defense", otherwise you gonna get screwed by the Park Service et al.....................
ReplyDeleteI saw nothing in the news article to indicate DNR doubted his story. I did note that since the man didnt have injuries they wouldnt classify it as an attack but responding officer did note

Only very rarely will absolution result after all that time spent. The system must substantiate its existence.
Need to mention anyone killing a wild animal with a shovel is doing it out of desperation and was the only tool at hand at the time. Those CS smaller Spetsnatz shovels are darn handy to keep around, I have one in every vehicle we drive as well as the larger Trench shovel at home for when heavier projects are needed. Decent make shift hatchet - digging tool that is tough as hell.
ReplyDeleteFilling sandbags by hand - those CS Spetsnatz shovels have the perfect blade size for filling them one handed, leaving your other hand ready to keep mouth of bag open. Speeds things right quick.
