Zeus's deterioration accelerated. He was crashing. Kubota was a rock-star. He used some connections and pulled in a few favors to get Zeus into the vet (small towns have advantages), but it was to no avail. Zeus slipped his mortal coil at 9:14 A.M. local time.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven
A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance... -Ecclesiastes 3, KJV
Zeus is planted between a Bur Oak and a Persimmon tree in our yard. He is looking west. My apologies for the crappy pictures. I was distracted.
God-speed, Zeus. Rest in Peace.
If you can spare a prayer for Kubota, I will appreciate it. He was holding his dog for the last 20 minutes telling Zeus "I'm sorry". Kubota could not hear me telling him that he had no reason to be sorry, that he (Kubota) had not failed him. That Zeus didn't blame him. That Zeus was happy that Kubota was there in his moments of greatest need.

Will do.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, the longer I live, the more the animal related deaths hurt the most.

I’m sorry for your loss. Dogs are part of our life just like family. After ours passed we decided to have no more dogs. The grief is overwhelming.

Sorry for your loss. Only time will dull the pain.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you and your family. I have come to believe that being with a living being (whether animal or human) during their final hours or minutes is truly a sacred experience. Sometimes (especially with our animals) we feel we just can’t be there for that. We think it would be better to remember them living, as opposed to remembering their death. Coming from experience of both being there, and not being there, being there has allowed me a greater connection with those who have passed, and more peace than with those instances when I wasn’t there. Kubota was there with Zeus when they both needed each other most. I pray for you and your family that the pain associated with memories of Zeus will sooner than later be replaced with joy and laughter whenever you think of him.
ReplyDeleteThe price of unconditional love is the pain of death. I sure hope there's dogs in heaven. I'll pray for y'all.
ReplyDeleteWhen the time is right, the next dog will be there. Sometimes it takes years and sometimes it's right away. It's happened both ways with me. You'll know when and you'll recognize the dog.
Love to all y'all.
