Antonio Ciseri was born in Ronco sopra Ascona, a municipality near Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland around 5 kilometers along the shore north of the border with Italy. It lies on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. He was born in 1821 and died in Florence, Italy in March of 1891.
The work shown above is his masterpiece. It was commissioned twenty years before he finished it. He completed the year that he died.
A tip of the hat to 10x25mm for suggesting this painter.

Art is in the eye of the beholder, and this is nice.
ReplyDeleteOT but important friends:

Read carefully. Pre-ordered doesn't mean delivered as the COVID "supply chain disruptions" proved recently. That the Secretary of Agriculture had to address this is concerning.
My per-ordered was canceled as I mentioned before. Just like during COVID. I can buy some but at prices that don't encourage me to plant much this year. I'm not big enough to get a check from the Secretary of Agriculture to assist me against bankruptcy.
That they can throw millions of dollars at farmers to replace lost income and "avoid Bankruptcy" doesn't bring a single loaf of bread to the grocery store.
Planting season is here. Is fertilizer? Will other countries trade US dollars for their supply and allow their citizens to do without? Some profiteering no doubt, but the two non-middle east major suppliers Russia and China say no.
Food on the shelves today was last year's harvest. Even if America keeps its two main exports Oil and Food at home the rest of the world that supplies us with a lot of our beef, all of our coffee, most of our off-season fruits and veggies will not have fertilizer and those countries will have hunger issues.
Some 15% of our food comes from overseas, not all of it is "just chocolate" stuff.
Tires, some 90% of our medicine, clothing and stuff comes from Asia, India and China. Directly or indirectly all of it is powered by middle east oil and natural gas.
No doubt the nit pickers will find an odd percentage incorrect, but will that make the fixed income seniors and working poor happier that a 1% difference might be argued?
I ponder how well the Gimme Dats are going to act out when their EBT cards run short of money? No doubt Gov.com will just add more tax dollars (really DEBT Dollars) to their cards to chase that loaf of bread.
Inflation seems baked into the cake, is Hyperinflation aka Weimar Germany? Time will tell.
I suggest a deeper pantry and looking towards your tires and such as it may take years to restore what our little War has taken offline in repairs to the system alone.
Happenstance since I have to have winter and summer tires I'm going to be alright for a couple of years of less driving at higher fuel costs.
Personally, I was ashamed that Rev Grahm was in the WH quoting the book of Esther and that Trump was destroying the enemies of the Jewish people.
Would have been nice if he also quoted some New Testament and the words of our Lord Jesus but I might have missed that part of his Trump prayer session.
Proverbs 21:13
13Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too shall cry out and receive no answer.
I wonder what the fellow that spoke that parable about the Good Samaritan might have to say about this apparently "Righteous War".
ERJ, this to me is the quintessential painting of Good Friday. I did not know the history; thanks for sharing.
