Fine Art Tuesday

 


Stanislav Zhukovsky was born in 1873 in what is now western Belarus of Polish-Russian parents. He fled Soviet Russia and settled in Poland. He died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1944.

  2. Stanislav Zhukovsky (also Stanisław Żukowski) must have participated in the 1944 Warsaw uprising. His biography says he died in Durchgangslager Pruszków (DuLag 121), a camp the SS set up in August 1944 specifically to take prisoners captured in Warsaw. Tough old bird to be engaged in urban partisan warfare at age 71.
