Even if you are skeptical that there ARE differences between men and women, it is still an interesting article. vittorio quotes data from peer-reviewed research and offers mechanisms based on evolutionary biology.
Some excerpts:

| Men did not shift conservative toward "toxic masculinity". Women shifted progressive and blamed men. |
Women evolved in environments where social exclusion carried enormous survival costs. You can't hunt pregnant. You can't fight nursing. (A woman's) Survival required the tribe's acceptance: their protection, their food sharing, their tolerance of your temporary vulnerability. Millions of years of this and you get (biological) hardware that treats social rejection as serious threat.
Men faced different pressures. Hunting parties gone for days. Exploration. Combat. You had to tolerate being alone, disliked, outside the group for extended periods. Men who could handle temporary exclusion without falling apart had more options. More risk-taking, more independence, more ability to leave bad situations.

The mental health collapse among teenage girls tracks almost perfectly with smartphone adoption, with stronger effects for girls than boys. The same vulnerability that made social exclusion more costly in ancestral environments made the new consensus engines more capturing.
This machine (social media + smartphones) wasn't designed to capture women specifically. It was designed to capture attention. But it captures people more susceptible to consensus pressure more effectively. Women are more susceptible on average. So it captured them more.
Universities flipped to 60% female while simultaneously becoming progressive monoculture. The institution young women trust most, during the years their worldview forms, feeds them a single ideology with no serious opposition.
FIRE's campus speech surveys show the pattern clearly: students self-censor, report fear of expressing views, cluster toward acceptable opinions. This isn't unique to women, but women are more embedded in higher education than men now, and the fields they dominate (humanities, social sciences, education, HR) are the most ideologically uniform.
Feminism told women their instincts and biology were oppression and wrong. Wanting children was brainwashing. Wanting a provider husband was internalized misogyny. Their natural desires were false consciousness installed by patriarchy.
Many believed it. Built lives around it. Career first. Independence. Freedom from traditional constraints.
Now they're 35, unmarried, measuring declining fertility against career achievements. And here's the trap: the sunk cost of admitting the ideology failed is enormous.
ERJ notes "Not Yet" becomes "NEVER". Never marry. Never have kids or grandkids. If you outlive your husband, which is highly likely, there will be nobody to visit you when you are old, in a nursing home, dying.
---
I should be honest about something: men weren't immune to capture. They were captured differently.
Women got ideological conformity. Men got withdrawal. Porn. Video games. Gambling apps. Outrage content. The male capture wasn't "believe this or face social death." It was "here's an endless supply of dopamine so you never have to build anything real."
(Repeat of link to the article)

A lot of sad truth here. And some might say the world wars did a LOT of damage to the risk taking breed of men.
ReplyDeleteLook around, where are the Churchills of today? There is a lot of genetics in folks that dare and do.
Modern life has successfully replaced a great deal of get her done with "likes" on the dopamine express (aka social media).
One of the sub-themes of the article is that men are more resilient to criticism which is common in results-oriented environments.
DeleteI slightly disagree. Social media seems to feed Cluster B personality disorder traits. Young men seem to be almost as sensitive to feedback as young women.
I was talking to the police chief of a small town nearby. He was shaking his head in disbelief. One of his officers quit because the chief didn't give him a personal atta-boy and pat on the head EVERY DAY. The chief replied "I give you atta-boys all the time. They are called "a pay-check."
So it isn't just women. And it isn't hypersensitivity to criticism. It evolved to hypersensitivity to lapses in constant positive attention.
Citing fundamental differences between him and her doesn't explain the graph. Why did the gap widen so much, so suddenly? That's what needs explanation.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest 24 hours a day, 7 days propaganda?
DeleteInfesting the education system with true believers of the Feminist religion.
Feminizing males by outlawing "toxic masculinity" and treating kids (mostly males) with Adderall and such.
May I suggest the dopamine express of social media?
As Joe said "So it isn't just women. And it isn't hypersensitivity to criticism. It evolved to hypersensitivity to lapses in constant positive attention." AKA dopamine?
Humans may have developed technology so advanced as to look like magic (Clarkes 3rd law) to folks of the Roman Empire we still have wetware 1.0 between our ears.
If you read the entire article, the author claims that the sudden shift coincided with saturation of smartphones and the 20 year-old demographic. Carrying a smartphone with you everywhere means that you never have to pull your head out of the internet. It becomes your reality, consequently, there are not real reality checks.
DeleteI believe that increasing use of anti depressants, chemical birth control, etc has had more of an effect on girls than boys. Use of these drugs, anecdotally, has increased substantially since 2000.
DeleteIt was bad before, it's gotten worse now. I'm hearing stories of girls and women on 2 or 3 mind altering prescriptions plus birth control, sometimes plus other things. This can't be good for them.
Jonathan
Since the very first days of apples and serpents, its always been them.
ReplyDeleteIf you very carefully and critically read Genesis, most translations are silent on whether Adam was present or absent while Eve argued with the Serpent. Since Eve was Adam's helpmate, it seems most probable that he was there and was letting Eve do the verbal battle with Satan.
DeleteAdam did not lift a finger to help.
When Eve finally caved, Adam rolled over like a female collie.
What is not written is at least as important as what is written.
I just read Genesis 3 and am curious how you determined your comment from that material.
DeleteCare to share your careful and critical thinking that generated that?
Thanks for giving me next Sundays Men's group discussion as more than a few there can read it in Aramaic and Greek.
NIV translation
DeleteNow the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. SHE ALSO GAVE SOME TO HER HUSBAND, WHO WAS WITH HER, and he ate it.
Other translations may vary.
Sounds like what I read.
DeleteNow the serpent often called Satan spoke to them and Deceived THEM. He was WITH HER your BOLD part.
Wow, you mean Adam was there LISTENING to the subtle deceptions of the Serpent aka Satan?
AND HE WAS DECEIVED? By the WOMAN or the SERPENT? HE WAS THERE.
Sounds like from my POV that Satan is a pretty good deceiver.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Sir, may I suggest that the Bible is an ongoing message to Humans from God about real world life. It has stories about Rape, Murder and so on.
People screw up. Satan is very good at deceiving people.
Goodness the WHOLE POINT in my humble opinion of this WHOLE THREAD is how EASILY Smart Phones can deceive and destroy people.
Happily, the Bible also speaks of repentance, and restoration.
I prefer to accept when I screw up rather than live a life that SOME WOMAN Screwed me up.
Blaming others for your weakness doesn't make you strong.
There is a very funny meme out there from a wag who claims to now understand the logic of the Salem Witch Trials.

DeleteModern feminism : fleeing hard things i.e. working thru problems- not running away; doing what works; saying you're sorry & forgiving others; sacrificing now for future results; admitting you're wrong & being willing to take the blame even if its not totally your fault; not insisting on your opinion; Accepting responsibility and never saying: ' it is someone else's fault'.
ReplyDeleteYou know michael is a fed right? you dont have to post this but its obvious and screems out through the night to anyone paying any attention
ReplyDeleteWhile I respect your conclusion, my gut feel is that the "federal agent" who review this site doesn't call attention to themselves and don't quote extensive amounts of Scripture.
DeleteRather, the federal agent tasked with keeping an eye on this blog is an anonymous box in a server farm filtering for key words and for certain strings of key-words.
Their meat-and-potatoes are the guys who have a few drinks in the evening and then type stupid things.
If Michael is a Fed, then he is generally well behaved and the majority of his comments adds to the dialog-like feel of this blog.
By some definitions, a GI shivering just south of the 38th parallel in Korea is a "Federal Agent" tasked with executing Federal policy. If I have any active military who are deployed and if this blog gives them any solace...then I am very happy.
