47 new Ronin every fifteen minutes

Medieval Japan was a feudal country. While a small amount of money changed hands, most of the economy was sustained by an elaborate system of "obligations" with "Loyalty" flowing up from the bottom and "Responsibilities" flowing down from the top.

This web of obligations was so comprehensive that it was virtually impossible for somebody who fell outside of the web to survive. That outsider had no legal right to collect firewood for cooking or to gather shellfish. They had no legal right to till and plant a field. They had no right to sleep under a roof.

It worked in Japan for a long time. Japan had (and has) a homogeneous population with a shared history. Japan had little mobility, either in society or in terms of geography. Japan did not have an abundance of natural resources and could not afford to run experiments that would likely fail.

Samurai were warriors who had pledge their allegiance to the local Shogun or Warlord. The pledge was not lightly given and Samurai typically only gave it once in their lifetime.

47 Ronin

47 Ronin is a movie based on a fictionalized rewrite of a Japanese folk-story that is based on actual, historical events.

Plot: An honorable Shogun who had 47 Samurai was forced to take his own life through the manipulations of a dishonorable Shogun. The Samurai refused to switch their allegiance to the new, slimy Shogun and thus became Samurai who were not pledged to a Shogun, known as Ronin in the Japanese language, a virtual death sentence in medieval Japan.

With honor gone and nothing else left to lose, the Ronin decide to avenge the honorable Shogun's death.

Divorces

There are approximately 1,800,000 divorces in the United States. If you divide that by the number of seconds in a year (including nights, weekends and holidays) we average one divorce every 17.5 seconds.

If you do the math, that means that there are 47 newly divorced men every fifteen minutes.

Every one of those divorced men have something in common with the Japanese Ronin. Typically, the courts kick them to the curb. They are turned into objects. They are piggy-banks to be drained. Much of society bought into "Always believe the woman".

If 47 Ronin in feudal Japan were seen as an existential threat to the Empire, then why do so many people cheer on the women who file for divorce*? "You go, girl. Kick his ass!!!"

47 new Ronin every fifteen minutes!!

It is something to ponder as the shredding of our society accelerates.

*4 out of every 5 divorces are initiated by the woman.

    1. You are totally right. I tell young guys that before you buy that engagement ring get to know her mother well because that is what you will be married to in 20 years. I learned that the hard way. ---ken

  2. I looked up the communist manifesto about family-divorce (Googlefu)

SNIP The Communist Manifesto does not explicitly mention divorces, but it does discuss the abolition of the family, which is a central tenet of communist ideology. The family, as a form of private ownership, is considered to be incompatible with the principles of communism. The manifesto suggests that the abolition of the family will be a necessary step towards achieving a classless society and the liberation of the proletariat.

I thought I recalled that bit from somewhere. Communism destroying families (and thus nations) since...

  3. REPEAL, THE 19th AMENDMENT!!!
You make every argument as to why, yet still defend it.
    THEY'RE NOT SANE!!!!!
You can blame hormones, you can excuse it away however you wish, I really don't care anymore. Everything that has gone to pot since feminism was accepted, is a result of feminism! Correlation IS causation. Repeal feminism and how quickly does everything go back to Mayberry? Instantly.
Simple fact is their brain is wired differently, and has been proven repeatedly as ineffective for the task. Yet society keeps smashing into the brick wall and denying the obvious cause, let me know how that's working out for ya....

  4. Why is it the woman? Bc he is already having an affair which he deems appropriate? Bc she’s being pushed/coached by others? Bc she feels neglected? Why aren’t men filing? We should look at the why. Then we could guide change. Those women I know who filed, did so bc the husband was either having affairs (he should have been honorable and filed) or neglected her to put his career first (I’m talking at the job other than sleeping, constantly answering calls, emails etc).

    3. It is my impression that a fair number of women get to mid-life and look around, thinking "Is this all there is?"

They talk to their girlfriends. Many of them work in professions dominated by women, school teachers, nurses, social workers. Some of their friends agree with them thinking that they are being supportive. Others not only agree with them but egg them on in a crab-bucket dynamic.

Guys I worked with would drive home one day and their clothing would be thrown out on the front lawn and the locks changed.

So "Why just the women?" is because women have different social dynamics then men.

  5. Some years ago my breakfast gang of local business guys were discussing this. I went to the court house and looked at the last 100 divorce filings and 92 of them were done by the woman. In my 50 years in the title insurance business I did 1000s of real estate closings and I can say that the majority of those resulting from divorce the man did not see it coming and he had no idea why. Our culture tells women that being "a single mom" is the best way to be. Obama glorified that in every speech I ever heard him do. ---ken

  6. Nitpick: The term is Daimyo, who rank below the Shogun. Some people call Daimyo Duke which isn't right, but does make the point that they are almost but not quite at the top.

    1. Thank-you for the correction. I will probably use the incorrect term "Shogun" due to word recognition.
