The word on the street back in 2022 was that she had already been chosen to fill Stabenow's Senate seat.
THe speed-bump that she ran into is that Michigan had to redistrict due to the 2020 Census and Slotkin lost her district. She ran against Tom Barrett in the nation's most expensive race. For some reason, the Democratic machine injected $9.8 million into her campaign. That compare to $2.3 million for the average Dem candidate in that year.
They could not afford to have her lose. There was no way she could win a Senate seat if she could not get elected to the House.
