Thanks for reading, and especially,...Hello Brigid.

Thanks for reading, and especially, thanks for taking the time to comment.

I do not dispute anything you wrote.

My point, which I failed to convey, is that lack of transportation often limits access to less expensive outlets with a greater range of selection than is available within walking distance or on a convenient bus route.

A person who must carry bags home or on the bus might look at Romaine Lettuce or cabbage or any other fruit or vegetable and think..."Danged stuff is 95% water. Why the heck would I want to drag this stuff across town when I can turn the tap and water comes out of it?" (A pound of green beans contains more water than a pound of milk!)

I had an additional comment come in via email. The writer noted that lack of a personal vehicle makes it difficult to have "agency".

An example of somebody I know personally: He works on third shift for $9 an hour and gets 28 hours a week. He receives Medicaid. He does not have a vehicle. He needed to see a specialist once a month. The only specialist who was accepting Medicaid patients was 37 miles away.

It is easy to become discouraged when you cannot run with the big dogs.Eaton Rapids Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09102166969915526172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970975545475697571.post-55832227698765270302017-01-22T15:52:47.653-05:002017-01-22T15:52:47.653-05:00I hear so much about the poor just not being able ...I hear so much about the poor just not being able to buy nutritious food and then stand in line again and again, buying veggies, whole wheat flour to make my own bread and rolls, and a big lean chunk of meat or two and pay HALF of what the folks in line in front of me are buying in Frozen pizza, wonderbread, lunchmeat, chips, and poptarts for the week.Home on the Rangehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03836315423040719919noreply@blogger.com
