Payment can be automated by E-Z Pass or barcodes on windshields or plate readers.

I don't see how that eliminates traffic police. Somebody has to deal with drivers who are stealing services. That is, payments are bounced by the credit card of record.

My other concern is that I don't want ANYBODY to have a complete record of where I go and how much time I spend there. My take isn't that governments are inherently evil. It is that governments are made up of people and all people are inherently weak and will do evil things.

The cost of letting an inefficient government build and maintain roads is that one less entity tracks me. That leaves only GM, Facebook, Verizon and any app that tracks GPS.

Peace, Brother MiltonEaton Rapids Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09102166969915526172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970975545475697571.post-19382722996997820692020-01-27T07:08:06.331-05:002020-01-27T07:08:06.331-05:00Well if the roads were privately owned, then those...Well if the roads were privately owned, then those that used them would have to pay whatever fee the owner required of them to pass through. Envision thousands of road companies, all in competition with each other, wanting you to use their roads rather than their competitors.

Imagine driving from Lansing to Fort Wayne on a perfectly smooth, speed limit free, privately owned thoroughfare where there were no "sharks" along the shoulders and under the bypasses to make you pay your fair share for making the best use of your time as you travel. (speeding)

And...what about the cost, you are thinking. Well, if *the govt* can do it, then private companies can do it better, faster and cheaper. And they will likely thank you for your business with a smile. Peace out.milton fhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04222904984648426127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970975545475697571.post-43794432930810446092020-01-26T14:11:27.104-05:002020-01-26T14:11:27.104-05:00Can you propose a better (fairer, more just)way to...Can you propose a better (fairer, more just)way to fund roads than a fuel tax?

I am just curious. I think there might be exceptions to the "always theft" claim just as I think politicians invariably find ways to divert moneys into projects that increased the likelihood of being re-elected.Eaton Rapids Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09102166969915526172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970975545475697571.post-55174768223560020172020-01-26T09:38:30.970-05:002020-01-26T09:38:30.970-05:00ALL taxation is theft.

We narrowly escaped pigovian tobacco tax in Indiana some years back when it was pointed out to the rulers that if their theft scheme worked as planned, it would be a diminishing source of funds that would need to be replaced at some time in the future.

Luckily for the tobacco users of Indiana, the Ruling Class relented. That time.

Taxes are ALWAYS theft.milton fhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04222904984648426127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2970975545475697571.post-18966519996156768392020-01-25T22:26:22.171-05:002020-01-25T22:26:22.171-05:00Yep, the 'variety' of taxes is amazing... ...Yep, the 'variety' of taxes is amazing...
