Elvis is no longer in the building

Dad passed away over the holidays.

It is OK. It was time. He was ready to go

Thank-you for your thoughts and prayers. It has been more peaceful and far less painful than I anticipated. A attribute it to the cloud of prayers that have cushioned us.

Again, thank-you.

  2. I'm sorry for your loss.
I was fortunate to move past my idiot teen years and have a good relationship with my Dad.
I would have liked more time, but we aren't allowed to chose the time of passing.

  7. Thinking of you here. Your posts showed a job well done. He will welcome you again someday.

Don't feel bad for feeling relief. It is harder work than most understand.

Thank-you for your kind words and prayers. I assure you that they are working.

There is much to be said for "leaving it all on the field".

In many ways, I am very lucky. I had him for a long time. 94 is a darned good run. He was still lugging ladders around until 89 and mowing grass until he was 92ish.

I will be proud if I can be half the man he was.

And yes, I do look forward to seeing him again.

  12. You will see him again. I lost my own dad when I was still too young and stupid to fully appreciate his character, and too soon to seek his wisdom when it could have helped. But I was still blessed to have him in my life. And you have been blessed with his long life and, I am guessing, many other things. And you will see him again. Condolences and Best Wishes.

  13. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy for you.
Your dad had a good run.
I trust he's in a better place and in a better frame of mind than ever before.
I don't miss my dad. I hear him often in my voice. I know the advice he'd give. I certainly heard every story he was willing to tell. Twice.
I'm sure it will be the same for you.

  14. Joe,
Although we don't know one another, it wouldn't be right to have read all that you've shared in the final months of your father's life and not offer you my condolences. I pray that he rests in perfect peace and is held lovingly in the memory of those left behind.

  19. Joe: Please accept my belated condolences for the passing of your father. My father also died at age 94. I loved him very much, he was a good father and a good man. But it was only after he died that I fully realized bit by bit over a long period of time, just how good of a guy and how good of a father he was. You may experience something similar with the passage of time. And if you do, it will just serve to remind you all over again just how lucky you were to have him as your father.
