Does anybody else see the irony?

The Boeing 737 Max is grounded world-wide because nanny software makes decisions the pilots disagree with.

The darlings of the automotive world are racing pell mell towards the nirvana of nanny software that actuates your brakes, changes lanes for you and parks your car.

The biggest darling off all, Tesla, brags about how it can, and does, download software fixes on-the-fly. Does anybody believe that a company that cannot exercise the discipline to paint a door will have the discipline to exercise change control and full backward validation of all software modules?

  1. Of course not, and until they start killing people willy nilly, the 'problems' will be ignored... sigh

  2. Every once in a while my 2014 Jeep screeches "BRAKE" at me with warning lights and sounds and actually applies the brakes. 99% of the time it's as I'm passing a semi on the interstate-perfectly safe-no danger whatsoever. I like my Jeep but hate the nannyism. "Fasten your seatbelt, look out for that car, there's something behind you-don't back up, etc." Shut up and let me drive, I know what I'm doing.

  3. Some people would consider it a feature, not a bug. You know, population control.
