After hearing about this Honduran Caravan walking to the US, intent on hitting the border in time to influence the mid-term elections, you would assume that the caravan was at least half way to the US border.
Working backwards from the election, you would expect the caravan to hit the border at least six days before the election to exploit the news cycle. News dies on Friday night so the latest they could arrive and still influence the election would be the Wednesday before the election. That is, October 31.
If the script calls for evil government types to be recorded shooting poor migrants with water cannons and tear gas at the border on October 31 then the migrants have eight days to cover 1000 miles if they hit South Texas or eight days to cover 2000 miles if they want to hit the much friendlier San Diego.
Guess where they are? They are 31 miles north of the Guatemala-Mexico border.
So maybe they are walking and knocking out an average of 15 miles a day. If so we should see them hit the border two-to-four months after the election.
Unless, of course, you are talking about the special, late election for Democrats that is held in January.
I've seen pictures of people riding on nice shiny new flatbed trucks; I suspect they get out and walk for photo ops - at the same time that they put women and children out front to hide the large numbers of young males in the group.
